Scottish Exports Awards Event Video27th April 2018
The Scottish Export Awards took place at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel on March 22nd 2018. The event was sponsored by HSBC, in association with the Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. The event celebrates the success of SMEs and entrepreneurs selling their products into overseas markets. Export and international trade are essential to the Scottish Government’s economic growth strategy.
The Scottish Export Awards consisted of an awards evening as part of a six-month international trade campaign promoted across social media, online and print news. Keynote speakers such as Nicola Sturgeon, Fraser Doherty from SuperJam, and the Constant General for the Chinese Republic attended.
Awards categories include E-commerce Exporter of the Year, Most Entrepreneurial Exporter of the Year, Scottish Export Team of the Year and High Growth Markets Exporter of the Year. Bridge of Weir Leather, an automotive company based in Renfrewshire, won the Scottish Exporter of the Year award for innovating in new ways when entering new markets.
GetFilm captured the awards night on video to promote the event and awards winners to a bigger audience, also encouraging future entries and attendees. Guests were greeted with bagpipe players heralding their arrival as they sipped champagne. The media wall encouraged visitors to engage in the event by taking a selfie. Dave Townsley gave a fantastic speech about celebrating the excellence of revenue-generating businesses at the awards dinner.
“The Scottish brand is world renowned, and partly that’s our history. You know, Scotland is the country that literally invented the modern world” said Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister.
Some of Scotland’s best known exports include whiskey, salmon and textiles, thanks to their world-class quality. BQ, a business and enterprise publication, helped to promote the Scottish Export Awards as entrepreneurship is at the core of their values. A spokesperson from SST Sensing, an electronics manufacturing company, said:
“Manufacturing in Scotland shows other countries that Scotland in particular is full of innovation as a manufacturing country.”
